last year i shaped my 1st surfboard in my garage, it was a 9'9" pig called d-bowls....it went pretty good for me despite the fact that it had reverse rocker.....i just made new version for myself, the 4th one i've done of this shape (the 2nd went to my cousin morgan, the 3rd to nathan adams)

ryan lovelace also makes of a version that is super cool too.....

had to do a mini simmons for my 7th board because they are so fun.....
......thought it would be fairly straight forward because its so short, but it was pretty tricky with all the bottom/deck contours and whatnot

made some plywood fins for it........

i remember when i first saw litmus and was blown away by derek hynd's surfing on the frye fish....

...his recent explorations into the finless realm have been equally mindblowing and cutting edge. he seems to have taken alternative surfing from retro to futuristic.

i have been thinking about making a finless board for myself but was little scared because i can't even shape a normal surfboard. but the cool thing about finless right now is that it is so experimental that nobody really knows what one should look like.

not wanting to waste a new blank, i decided to use this dumpster board that was sitting outside ryan's shop

i figured this would be a good place to start because the board didn't have much rocker

....stripped the glass

...didn't really know what to do for the shape, and i have never seen one of derek's boards, but i have seen josh farberow's finless (and he makes his work good), so i figured i would do something similar: fish nose, straightish outline, wide tail

...i gave it boxy rails, turned up in the nose, and a double concave bottom

it came out to be gilda-size.

......we'll see if it goes
